I think the title describes me all too well. I’m one of those people Jack Thompson likes to rant about, except I’m older than average, haven’t gone postal on anyone, haven’t lost my job, sanity or family, and manage to do other things in the two hours a day I’m not gaming.
Yes I’m kidding about the two hours. I manage to squeeze about six hours of sleep into every 24 hours so you do the math.
I’ve been a gamer for as long as I can remember, although when I was child, it was board games (personal computers had yet to make an appearance). I played Pong, moved on to Atari, Odyssey (PacMan, Frogger, Donkey Kong, yadda yadda), MUDs, and finally real honest to god computer games.
I’m still looking for the perfect game, which would give me wide open spaces to explore, a highly customizable avatar, challenging content that didn’t require an army to complete, housing that didn’t kill city life, and a variety of choices that would include combat, crafting, business, and politics. It could happen!
You’ve heard that saying, “Give me all your chocolate and nobody gets hurt”? Yah, that’s me. Bribe me with chocolate truffles and you can get me to do almost anything. Dark chocolate works best.
I love music. I was raised on Classic Rock but you can find some of everything in my collection. Well okay, there isn’t any rap, but there’s some of everything else. In my alternate life I’m a terrific singer and a fantastic artist (that’s opposed to this life in which no one will ever hear me croak a single note, and where, although I have the soul of an artist, I have none of the talent).
I like people who can take a joke, and people who actually understand when it IS a joke. I dislike people who pretend they’re something they aren’t. I came to motherhood kicking and screaming, then found it was a career that absorbed my life (not to mention most of my energy and a lot of my money), added a dimension I never thought possible, and was a natural fit for me.
